METALLICA Offer LiveMetallica.com Update

October 8, 2004

METALLICA's official web site has been updated with the following message regarding LiveMetallica.com, the official METALLICA web site that previously promised to bring the fans live soundboard-quality METALLICA concert downloads (.mp3 or .flac) from the band's current tour within a few days of the show:

"Those of you who have been downloading shows from the Madly in Anger With the World Tour have no doubt noticed that some shows are not available and we want to give you a more detailed explanation of why that is. It has always been our intention to put every show that we have played on this tour up on the web site as quickly as possible, and in an effort to give something back to the fans who are supporting us, kept the price of the downloads to the minimum to simply cover our costs to produce the site.

"However, some of the buildings that we are appearing in have what is called an 'origination fee' that the artist must pay when doing a live recording. Other buildings have contracts with the local stagehand unions that require the artist to pay the union a fee when recording the show. Many of you are aware that we travel with our own sound engineer, but unfortunately if there is a contract between the venue and the local union in place, we are obligated to pay the designated fees.

"As we've toured in Europe and North America, many venues and local unions have been kind enough to waive their fees in an understanding that LiveMetallica is not designed as a money-making venture. However, some buildings and unions refuse to budge. Many of you have asked why there isn't more notice on which shows will not be available and the answer simply is that we are negotiating right up to the last possible second, and unfortunately have exhausted all possibilities.

"We really appreciate the tremendous support the site has received and are sorry to disappoint you if the show you want to download is not available."
